R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
  memories of Billy Eugene "Sarge" Cook of Dallas, who passed away on
  February 18, 2009, at the age of 79; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Lebanon, Missouri, Sarge Cook was born
  February 16, 1930, to Robert and Wynona Cook; he joined the U.S. Air
  Force at the age of 18 and proudly served his country in the Korean
  War; during his military career, he worked as an airplane
  technician and later served as a missile technician in the early
  days of the space program; he also enjoyed playing semipro football
  for the U.S. Air Force before his retirement as chief master
  sergeant in 1968; and
       WHEREAS, Mr. Cook went on to drive cattle trucks until 1975,
  when he embraced his true passion of working the rodeo; he served as
  an event chute boss at rodeos in Texas, Kansas, and Nebraska and as
  a livestock supervisor at the Indian National Finals Rodeo in
  Albuquerque, New Mexico; he also held various positions at the
  National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and the Fort Worth Stock Show and
  Rodeo, and he was instrumental in opening Billy Bob's Texas, where
  he worked for several years; and
       WHEREAS, Earning the respect and admiration of his peers for
  his devotion to the sport, this notable professional was inducted
  into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2003; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cook was devoted to his children, Genia Cook and
  the late Gene Cook, and enjoyed spending time with his grandson,
  Scott, and his great-grandson, Cassius; and
       WHEREAS, Sarge Cook is deeply missed by those who were
  privileged to know him, and he will always be remembered with great
  admiration for his generous friendship and dedication to his craft;
  now, therefore, be it 
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Billy Eugene "Sarge"
  Cook and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to
  his daughter, Genia Cook; to his grandson, Scott Cook; to his
  great-grandson, Cassius Cook; to his brother, Elwin Cook; and to
  his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
       RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Billy
  Eugene "Sarge" Cook.
