R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Westwood Junior High School in Dallas was awarded
  "Recognized" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and
         WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from
  the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an
  accountability rating system for the state's public schools and
  districts; a campus gains "Recognized" status if at least 75
  percent of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of
  Knowledge and Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 34
  percent of all schools earned this distinction; and
         WHEREAS, Westwood is the Richardson Independent School
  District's Math, Science, and Leadership Magnet and has earned
  "Recognized" status every year since 2004; providing instruction
  for youth in grades seven and eight, the school currently has an
  enrollment of approximately 640 students who develop their skills
  and knowledge in such programs as the RISD/Texas Instruments Math
  Initiative, the Science Olympiad, and Advancement Via Individual
  Determination; guided by principal Peggy Dillon, the faculty and
  staff strive to help their pupils realize their full potential; and
         WHEREAS, The teachers and students of Westwood Junior High
  School have demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance
  in their pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take
  justifiable pride in the accolade their school has received from
  the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Westwood Junior High School on its
  achievement of a "Recognized" rating from the Texas Education
  Agency in 2008 and extend to its students, teachers, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
