R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Park Crest Elementary School in Garland was awarded |
|
"Recognized" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; and |
|
WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from |
|
the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an |
|
accountability rating system for the state's public schools and |
|
districts; a campus gains "Recognized" status if at least 75 |
|
percent of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of |
|
Knowledge and Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 34 |
|
percent of all schools earned this distinction; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1961, Park Crest Elementary today has an |
|
enrollment of approximately 450 students from many cultures and |
|
nationalities; its faculty, led by principal Don Drummond, likewise |
|
reflects the diversity of the community, and draws strength from |
|
its wide variety of styles, experiences, and backgrounds to help |
|
each student build on his or her unique talents and abilities; |
|
central to the school's instructional philosophy is a commitment to |
|
reading as a critical skill and means to empowerment; Park Crest is |
|
also noted for its choir, which won its sixth consecutive Division 1 |
|
trophy in the 2008 Sandy Lake Choir Competition; and |
|
WHEREAS, The teachers and students of Park Crest Elementary |
|
School have demonstrated outstanding dedication and perseverance |
|
in their pursuit of academic excellence, and they may indeed take |
|
justifiable pride in the accolade their school has received from |
|
the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Park Crest Elementary School on its |
|
achievement of a "Recognized" rating from the Texas Education |
|
Agency in 2008 and extend to its students, teachers, and staff |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
