R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, M. D. Williams Elementary School in Garland was |
|
awarded "Recognized" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from |
|
the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an |
|
accountability rating system for the state's public schools and |
|
districts; a campus gains "Recognized" status if at least 75 |
|
percent of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of |
|
Knowledge and Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 34 |
|
percent of all schools earned this distinction; and |
|
WHEREAS, Led by principal Ellen Mooney, Williams Elementary |
|
has achieved "Recognized" status each year since 2005; it has |
|
served central Garland for more than a half-century and many of its |
|
alumni are respected and successful members of the community; |
|
Williams Elementary today has an enrollment of approximately 315 |
|
students who benefit by instruction from a faculty recognized for |
|
its skill and commitment; most recently, fifth grade mathematics |
|
teacher Arezou Laridjani won an area competition to inspire |
|
students by connecting math to everyday life, and special education |
|
teacher Angela Brannon was chosen Teacher of the Month for January |
|
2009 by Garland Power and Light; and |
|
WHEREAS, The teachers and students of M. D. Williams |
|
Elementary School have demonstrated outstanding dedication and |
|
perseverance in their pursuit of academic excellence, and they may |
|
indeed take justifiable pride in the accolade their school has |
|
received from the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor M. D. Williams Elementary School on its |
|
achievement of a "Recognized" rating from the Texas Education |
|
Agency in 2008 and extend to its students, teachers, and staff |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
