R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, M. D. Williams Elementary School in Garland was
  awarded "Recognized" status by the Texas Education Agency in 2008;
  and
         WHEREAS, To ensure that all students in Texas benefit from
  the highest standards of education, the TEA instituted an
  accountability rating system for the state's public schools and
  districts; a campus gains "Recognized" status if at least 75
  percent of its students pass each of the Texas Assessment of
  Knowledge and Skills subject area tests, and in 2008, only 34
  percent of all schools earned this distinction; and
         WHEREAS, Led by principal Ellen Mooney, Williams Elementary
  has achieved "Recognized" status each year since 2005; it has
  served central Garland for more than a half-century and many of its
  alumni are respected and successful members of the community;
  Williams Elementary today has an enrollment of approximately 315
  students who benefit by instruction from a faculty recognized for
  its skill and commitment; most recently, fifth grade mathematics
  teacher Arezou Laridjani won an area competition to inspire
  students by connecting math to everyday life, and special education
  teacher Angela Brannon was chosen Teacher of the Month for January
  2009 by Garland Power and Light; and
         WHEREAS, The teachers and students of M. D. Williams
  Elementary School have demonstrated outstanding dedication and
  perseverance in their pursuit of academic excellence, and they may
  indeed take justifiable pride in the accolade their school has
  received from the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor M. D. Williams Elementary School on its
  achievement of a "Recognized" rating from the Texas Education
  Agency in 2008 and extend to its students, teachers, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
