R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Cecilia Guthrie Boone has been selected as the 2009
  recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award by the League of Women
  Voters of Dallas Education Fund; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Kentucky, Cecilia Boone moved to
  Indiana, Ohio, and Texas as an employee of IBM; settling in the Lone
  Star State, she married her husband, Garrett, and they shared the
  joy of welcoming three children, Aimee, Katherine, and Guthrie into
  their family; in 1978, the couple, together with their business
  partners, launched The Container Store, which Mr. Boone continues
  to serve as chairman emeritus; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to meeting her career and family
  responsibilities, Mrs. Boone has dedicated countless hours to her
  community, focusing on programs for women; she served as president
  of the board of Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas, and she
  was affiliated with Planned Parenthood of North Texas and Annie's
  List, a group that encourages women to seek statewide office; in
  2006, she held the position of president of the board for the Dallas
  Women's Foundation, supporting the organization's mission to
  promote philanthropy and to help women and girls realize their full
  potential; and
         WHEREAS, This generous civic leader is the chair of the Boone
  Family Foundation, and she remains involved in numerous local
  organizations, including the Dallas Assembly and the Dallas Summit,
  and the KERA North Texas Public Broadcasting board; Mrs. Boone is
  also active on the board of the Dallas County Community Colleges
  Foundation, Inc., and she assisted with the expansion of the
  DCCCD's Rising Star Scholarship Program to serve more students, the
  majority of whom are the first members in their families to attend
  college; moreover, she is an adjunct faculty member at the Center on
  Philanthropy at Indiana University and a member of the Women's
  Leadership Board of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government; and
         WHEREAS, A champion for the empowerment of young girls and
  women, Cecilia Boone is committed to improving the quality of life
  for many Texans, and her selfless efforts inspire all those who are
  fortunate enough to know her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Cecilia Guthrie Boone on her
  receipt of the 2009 Susan B. Anthony Award from the League of Women
  Voters of Dallas Education Fund and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Boone as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
