R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Don Pumphrey of Beaumont has been selected as Person
  of the Year for 2008 by Quota International of Southeast Texas; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont and a graduate of Lamar
  University, Mr. Pumphrey has worked in the electric utility
  industry for 29 years and was a television journalist and
  personality in the 1970s; he served as community development
  coordinator for the City of Beaumont from 1974 to 1978 and,
  beginning in 1979, administered the Project Care senior citizen
  energy assistance program for Gulf States Utilities Company; he
  currently works as customer service manager for the Entergy Port
  Arthur Network; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pumphrey is a perennial volunteer in Nederland
  and Port Arthur, present behind the scenes at countless functions
  throughout the year; his work in the community has earned him a
  reputation for integrity, efficiency, and optimism, and he is
  renowned for his ability to effectively put available resources to
  use in behalf of area citizens; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has been a member of the boards
  of the St. Anthony Cathedral School, the American Red Cross, the
  March of Dimes, the Southeast Texas Quality Workforce Planning
  Committee, and the Port Arthur Public School Foundation; moreover,
  he has served as president of the Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce,
  the North Port Arthur Rotary Club, the Press Club of Southeast
  Texas, and Boys Haven of America, and as chair of the Nederland
  Chamber of Commerce, Goodwill Industries of Southeast Texas and
  Southwest Louisiana, and the Medical Center of Southeast Texas; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Pumphrey has enjoyed
  the love and support of his wife, the former Elaine Frazier, and
  their children, Nicole and Amy; and
         WHEREAS, Don Pumphrey has long demonstrated his dedication to
  improving the quality of life for his fellow citizens, and this
  award justly recognizes him for his generous community efforts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Don Pumphrey on his selection as
  Person of the Year for 2008 by Quota International of Southeast
  Texas and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Pumphrey as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
