R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Friends and family are mourning the loss of William |
|
Eugene Nichols of Hewitt, who passed away on February 28, 2009, at |
|
the age of 79; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born to William and Hester Nichols in Amarillo on |
|
August 19, 1929, Bill Nichols served two tours of duty in Korea and |
|
three tours in Vietnam during his 22-year career with the U.S. Air |
|
Force; his service also took him to such diverse places as Alaska, |
|
Greenland, and Morocco before his retirement at the rank of |
|
technical sergeant; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Nichols was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars |
|
Post No. 6008 and was formerly commander of Post No. 9849 and |
|
All-American Commander of District 29 in Central Texas; he was also |
|
a member and former commander of the Military Order of the Cootie; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A resident of Hubbard for nearly 40 years, Mr. |
|
Nichols served on the Hubbard Housing Authority and was a |
|
congregant at First Baptist Church of Hubbard; in addition, he |
|
spent many enjoyable hours with the Dairy Queen Coffee Club and took |
|
an active role in the Hubbard Lions Club, and his involvement in |
|
youth sports included operating the scoreboard at Jaguar Field in |
|
Hubbard for many years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Nichols enjoyed a |
|
rewarding marriage with his wife, Kathy, and he took great delight |
|
in his three children, Lori, Tyna, and Dallas, and his six |
|
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, Bill Nichols |
|
leaves behind a wealth of memories that will long be treasured by |
|
all those fortunate enough to have shared in his company; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of William Eugene |
|
Nichols and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to |
|
his wife, Kathy Nichols; to his children, Lori Harmon and her |
|
husband, Craig, Tyna Nichols, and Dallas "Quentin" Perryman; to his |
|
grandchildren, Gidgit Miller, Misty Gerik, Lyle Harmon, Katie |
|
Perryman, Chris Perryman, and Sarah Lyon; to his six |
|
great-grandchildren; to his brothers, Roy and Ray Nichols; and to |
|
his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill |
|
Nichols. |
