R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Reaching the pinnacle of success in its sport, the
  girls' basketball team from Midway High School in Waco won the 2009
  University Interscholastic League 4A state championship with a
  50-27 victory over Mansfield Timberview High School on March 7,
  2009; and
         WHEREAS, Capping off a stellar season in which they finished
  with a record of 35 wins and just 4 losses, the Pantherettes
  dominated their top-ranked opponent with a stalwart defensive
  effort; Cokie Reed led the Midway attack, tallying 17 points, 11
  rebounds, 6 blocked shots, and 3 assists in a performance that
  earned her the championship game most valuable player award; the
  2009 state title is the seventh in Midway school history and the
  first since 1994; and
         WHEREAS, Valuable contributions were made throughout the
  course of the season by each member of the Midway squad; in addition
  to Ms. Reed, the roster includes Kemitria Ward, Jessica Zwernemann,
  Abbey George, Makenzie Robertson, Dana Neeper, Octavia Perry,
  Delisa Gross, Krissica Harper, Toi Gober, Crystal Patterson, Dianna
  Jones, and Kaylin Shillinglaw; and
         WHEREAS, Inspired by the team motto, "All in," the
  Pantherettes were ably guided by head coach Teri Morrison and
  received additional support from assistant coach Todd Monsey,
  freshman coach Shatina Lewis, and manager Tyler Zehler; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and dedication, and the
  student-athletes of the Midway High School girls' basketball team
  will forever treasure the memory of this exceptional
  accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Midway High School
  Pantherettes on winning the UIL 4A state basketball championship
  and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
