R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced
  by a great and enduring love, Courtney and Jay Smith of Midland
  celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 21, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Smith first met in Fort Worth in 1955
  and began dating in 1958; they were united in matrimony at First
  United Methodist Church in Weatherford in 1959; through the years,
  they have nurtured a fulfilling marriage that has been made even
  richer with the addition of their children, Steven Eric Smith and
  his wife, Jeana, Shelley Lynne Hollums and her husband, Eddy, Joel
  David Smith and his wife, Kim, and Clayton Jay Smith and his wife,
  Susan; they have been further blessed by 13 grandchildren and 5
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smith is a semiretired landman, and Mrs. Smith
  retired from Burlington Resources in 2004; they have been residents
  of Midland since 1975; and
         WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past
  half-century, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant
  in their commitment to one another, and the strength of their love
  has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with
  grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Courtney and Jay Smith on their
  golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Smith as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
