R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Jon Smith was honored by the Heritage of Odessa |
|
|
Foundation with a 2009 Community Statesman Award in recognition of |
|
|
his outstanding civic contributions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Every year for the past quarter-century, the |
|
|
Heritage of Odessa Foundation has paid tribute to individuals who |
|
|
have excelled in their various fields and in their public service |
|
|
endeavors; nominated by their fellow citizens and chosen by a |
|
|
special committee, the 13 recipients have volunteered their time |
|
|
and resources to support Odessa and its residents; in 2009, Jon |
|
|
Smith was selected for this accolade in the category of the arts; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A photographer for more than three decades, Mr. |
|
|
Smith has captured panoramic scenes of the American Southwest, |
|
|
Europe, Asia, Mexico, and South America, and he has created two |
|
|
museum exhibits; he is a member of the International Association of |
|
|
Panoramic Photographers, the American Society of Trial |
|
|
Consultants, and the Public Relations Society of America; he is |
|
|
also actively involved with the Ellen Noel Art Museum of the Permian |
|
|
Basin, the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, the Boy Scouts of |
|
|
America, and First United Methodist Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smith has demonstrated an unwavering commitment |
|
|
to his profession and to the city of Odessa, and his compassion and |
|
|
generosity are an inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jon Smith on his receipt of a 2009 |
|
|
Community Statesman Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
