R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Tarrant County Black Historical and |
|
Genealogical Society celebrated the grand opening of the Lenora |
|
Rolla Heritage Center on February 22, 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1977, the Tarrant County Black Historical |
|
and Genealogical Society is a nonprofit public service organization |
|
dedicated to preserving African American heritage; genealogical |
|
research is one of the organization's primary focuses, and its |
|
efforts toward discovering the family histories of local residents |
|
have revealed ancestries that stretch back to the original 13 |
|
American colonies; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Lenora Rolla Heritage Center is located in the |
|
Terrell Heights Historic District of Fort Worth in a building that |
|
has been designated a historical and cultural landmark; the center |
|
will house the society's offices as well as a museum of artifacts |
|
with historical significance to local families of African descent; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Recognition of the rich cultural legacies of the |
|
state's residents provides all Texans with a deeper understanding |
|
of their shared history, and the Lenora Rolla Heritage Center |
|
promises to be an outstanding resource that will help communicate |
|
the fascinating and inspiring saga of the African American citizens |
|
of Tarrant County; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the Lenora |
|
Rolla Heritage Center and extend to members and supporters of the |
|
Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success with the organization's important |
|
work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the society as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
