R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, In the nearly three-year period since it was |
|
founded, the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps has proven to be a |
|
positive force in helping students at Bedichek Middle School in |
|
Austin prepare for the future; and |
|
WHEREAS, Created in 2006, the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps is |
|
designed to instill the values of citizenship, service, and |
|
personal responsibility in its cadets as well as provide them with a |
|
sense of accomplishment; the program is open to Bedichek students |
|
in the sixth through eighth grades and helps participants develop |
|
leadership skills, strengthen their character, and learn effective |
|
self-discipline; the cadets are guided by Staff Sergeant Darrick |
|
Norton, a former marine and a member of the school's faculty; and |
|
WHEREAS, This innovative program requires its cadets to pass |
|
all their courses, demonstrate high moral standards, and adhere to |
|
a strict code of conduct; no commitment to future military service |
|
is required of BJMC cadets, and the lessons taught by the program |
|
are intended to benefit them in all walks of life; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Bedichek Junior Marine Corps program helps young |
|
people develop a range of admirable skills and values, and it is a |
|
pleasure to recognize its worthwhile achievements; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Bedichek Junior Marine Corps for its |
|
contribution to the development of informed, responsible citizens |
|
and extend to all those involved with the program sincere best |
|
wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the program as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
