R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the tragic loss of
  Lieutenant Stuart Jay Alexander of the Corpus Christi Police
  Department, who died in the line of duty on March 11, 2009, at the
  age of 47; and
         WHEREAS, Stuart Alexander was born in San Antonio on July 22,
  1961, to Charles and Barbara Alexander; raised in a military
  family, he joined the U.S. Army after his graduation from John
  Marshall High School in 1979, earning several commendations and
  medals during his service; and
         WHEREAS, After receiving a bachelor's degree in criminal
  justice from The University of Texas at San Antonio, Mr. Alexander
  entered the Corpus Christi Police Department academy and was sworn
  in as an officer in the department at the end of 1988; and
         WHEREAS, He earned many departmental commendations and
  letters of appreciation from the public during his exemplary
  20-year career; promoted to lieutenant in 2000, he earned the
  respect and admiration of his fellow officers as a dedicated and
  hardworking supervisor; and
         WHEREAS, Lieutenant Alexander was also known for his
  enthusiasm for skeet shooting and for his love of laughter and
  practical jokes; he was deeply committed to his family, and he was
  involved in a number of community service projects through his
  church, Abundant Life Fellowship Church of the Nazarene; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding police officer dedicated himself
  to the safety and welfare of his fellow Texans, and though his life
  ended far too soon, he will forever hold a treasured place in the
  hearts of all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lieutenant Stuart
  Jay Alexander and extend sincere condolences to the members of his
  family: to his wife of 19 years, Vicky Jean Alexander; to his son,
  Benjamin Jay Alexander and his wife, Fawn; to his grandchildren,
  Holly, Sadie, and Lukas Alexander; to his father, Charles
  Alexander; to his brother, Scott Alexander, and his sister, Susan
  McKenzie; to his in-laws, Charles and Janet Trout; and to his other
  relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lieutenant
  Stuart Alexander.
