R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The dedication and hard work of David Smitherman of |
|
|
Longview is being formally recognized with his receipt of a 2009 |
|
|
Carrier of the Year Award from the Texas Circulation Management |
|
|
Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An organization of Texas newspaper circulation |
|
|
managers and newspaper delivery personnel, the TCMA bestows the |
|
|
Carrier of the Year Awards at a banquet during its annual |
|
|
conference; newspaper carriers are recognized in several different |
|
|
categories, and Mr. Smitherman has won in the category of carriers |
|
|
delivering more than 200 papers a day; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smitherman was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in |
|
|
1940 and moved to Marshall, Texas, with his family that same year; |
|
|
in 1945, he moved to Longview, and he graduated from nearby |
|
|
Hallsville High School in 1958; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Smitherman |
|
|
served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962; he then returned |
|
|
to Longview, where he worked for the Schlitz Brewery for 33 years; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Smitherman is a carrier for the Longview |
|
|
News-Journal, delivering papers to his customers faithfully and |
|
|
reliably for 32 years; in recognition of his achievement, he will |
|
|
receive a cash prize and a commendation from Governor Rick Perry; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, David Smitherman is supported in all his endeavors |
|
|
by his wife, Ruby, his children, Donna and John David, his |
|
|
grandchildren, Amy, Blake, Cade, Cason, and Eli, and his |
|
|
great-grandchildren, Brianna, Matthew, and Mason; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In meeting his daily responsibilities, David |
|
|
Smitherman has set high standards to which others may aspire, and he |
|
|
may indeed reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate David Smitherman on being named a |
|
|
2009 Carrier of the Year by the Texas Circulation Management |
|
|
Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Smitherman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
