R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The dedication and hard work of David Smitherman of
  Longview is being formally recognized with his receipt of a 2009
  Carrier of the Year Award from the Texas Circulation Management
  Association; and
         WHEREAS, An organization of Texas newspaper circulation
  managers and newspaper delivery personnel, the TCMA bestows the
  Carrier of the Year Awards at a banquet during its annual
  conference; newspaper carriers are recognized in several different
  categories, and Mr. Smitherman has won in the category of carriers
  delivering more than 200 papers a day; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smitherman was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, in
  1940 and moved to Marshall, Texas, with his family that same year;
  in 1945, he moved to Longview, and he graduated from nearby
  Hallsville High School in 1958; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Smitherman
  served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962; he then returned
  to Longview, where he worked for the Schlitz Brewery for 33 years;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smitherman is a carrier for the Longview
  News-Journal, delivering papers to his customers faithfully and
  reliably for 32 years; in recognition of his achievement, he will
  receive a cash prize and a commendation from Governor Rick Perry;
  and
         WHEREAS, David Smitherman is supported in all his endeavors
  by his wife, Ruby, his children, Donna and John David, his
  grandchildren, Amy, Blake, Cade, Cason, and Eli, and his
  great-grandchildren, Brianna, Matthew, and Mason; and
         WHEREAS, In meeting his daily responsibilities, David
  Smitherman has set high standards to which others may aspire, and he
  may indeed reflect with pride on a job well done; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate David Smitherman on being named a
  2009 Carrier of the Year by the Texas Circulation Management
  Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Smitherman as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
