R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In recognition of his exemplary service to the
  department and to the people of Garland, Trey Rieper has been named
  the 2009 Firefighter of the Year by the Garland Fire Department; and
         WHEREAS, Trey Rieper began his career in 1991 as a volunteer
  with the Waxahachie Rural Fire Department, and he would go on to
  serve that department for 15 years, including five years as chief;
  and
         WHEREAS, In 1995, he entered the DeSoto Fire Academy, and the
  following year, he became a career firefighter with the Garland
  department; he continued his education at the Dallas Fire Academy
  and graduated from the paramedic school of The University of Texas
  Southwestern Medical Center in 1998; and
         WHEREAS, During his 12 years with the Garland Fire
  Department, Trey Rieper has worked at Stations 2, 4, and 6, and for
  the past nine years, he has been assigned to Station 8, where he is a
  valued member of the Rescue Team; he holds Advanced Firefighter,
  Fire Investigator, and State Field Examiner certifications, as well
  as certifications in swift water rescue; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding public servant has shared his
  knowledge and experience with others as an instructor with the
  Garland Fire Department Recruit School and Hybrid Vehicle Class;
  since 2005, he has coordinated and taught the swift water rescue
  training classes for Garland and four other departments, and under
  his leadership the classes have expanded to serve firefighters from
  around the region and state; and
         WHEREAS, With the love and support of his wife, Stephanie,
  and his children, Kaitlyn and Amanda, Trey Rieper has earned the
  respect and admiration of his peers for his professionalism, his
  commitment to excellence, and his dedication to safeguarding the
  public, and he may indeed take great pride in his receipt of this
  prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Trey Rieper on his selection as the
  2009 Firefighter of the Year by the Garland Fire Department and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Trey Rieper as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
