R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Dr. William
  Gordon McGee of El Paso, who died on April 6, 2008, at the age of 74;
  and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas Southwestern
  Medical School, Dr. McGee completed a double residency in internal
  medicine and pathology; he began working as a pathologist at Hotel
  Dieu Hospital in El Paso, and he was instrumental in developing a
  laboratory business now known as Quest Diagnostics; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. McGee was deeply committed to providing good
  medical care; he was the founder of El Paso's Emergency Medical
  Service system and had served as chairman of the board of that
  organization; he also served as chairman of the boards of the Texas
  Medical Association, the El Paso city-county health board, and El
  Paso First, where he fought to make health insurance available to
  children from low-income families; additionally, he had been
  president of the Texas Society of Pathologists and the El Paso
  County Medical Society; and
         WHEREAS, He was appointed by Governor Mark White to the Texas
  Tech University board of regents, where he worked to establish the
  El Paso medical school as a four-year institution; he worked
  statewide to improve the delivery of health care along the border,
  and he was honored by the Texas Society of Pathologists with the
  George J. Caldwell Award and received the Distinguished Service
  Award from the Texas Medical Association; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. McGee dedicated himself to his community, his
  state, and his country, and his warmth, wisdom, and valued counsel
  will not be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. William Gordon
  McGee and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. William
  Gordon McGee.
