R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Alumni of Texas A&I University are visiting the |
|
State Capitol on April 8, 2009, to gain further insight into the |
|
workings of state government as they pay tribute to their cherished |
|
alma mater; and |
|
WHEREAS, The oldest public institution of higher learning in |
|
the region dates back to 1917, when it was chartered as South Texas |
|
State Teachers College, and it officially opened its doors in 1925; |
|
it was renamed Texas College of Arts and Industries four years |
|
later, and it became known as Texas A&I University in 1967; with its |
|
rich traditions, the university has built on its outstanding |
|
reputation by expanding its mission and offering a wide array of |
|
academic programs to meet the needs of a growing and diverse student |
|
population; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although the graduates of Texas A&I University have |
|
gone on to make their mark on the world in a broad range of |
|
disciplines, these accomplished men and women remain united in |
|
their loyalty to the university that had such a deep and abiding |
|
influence in shaping their lives, and they reflect on the years they |
|
spent as "The Hoggies" with the utmost affection; and |
|
WHEREAS, In providing generations of students with high |
|
quality educational experiences, Texas A&I University has earned |
|
the admiration of many citizens from the Lone Star State and beyond, |
|
and its alumni may indeed take justifiable pride in their notable |
|
alma mater; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby welcome the graduates of Texas A&I University to |
|
the State Capitol and extend to them sincere best wishes for a |
|
memorable stay in Austin; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the alumni of Texas A&I University as an expression of |
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
