H.R. No. 1199

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The academic decathlon team at Memorial High School in San Antonio completed an outstanding 2009 season, and the team members merit special recognition for their achievements; and

WHEREAS, The Academic Decathlon program provides high school students an opportunity to experience the challenges of rigorous academic competition through participation in team activities; subjects include art, music, math, science, social studies, language and literature, economics, essay, speech, and interview, and the themes of this year's events were evolutionary biology and Latin America; and

WHEREAS, Memorial students earned a number of honors at the 2009 regional and statewide meets; the team includes Juan Carlos Norianueva, Jackie Hernandez, Yesenia Mancilla, Josefina Perez, Kimberly Hernandez, Elizabeth Aleman, Perry Yzquierdo, and Alex Urdiales; and

WHEREAS, By demonstrating a commitment to hard work and study, the 2008-2009 Memorial High School academic decathlon team sets a noteworthy example for their peers, and all involved can look with pride on what they have learned and accomplished; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Memorial High School academic decathlon team for their participation and awards in the 2009 Regional and State Academic Decathlon Competitions and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued success in all of their endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Memorial High School academic decathlon team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
