R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family-owned businesses are the backbone of Texas
  communities, and for 52 years Gonzalez Place tavern has played a
  vital role in the life of Weslaco; and
         WHEREAS, The tavern was established on Texas Boulevard in
  Weslaco in 1957 by Fidencio Martinez Gonzalez, who had emigrated
  from Mexico at the age of 14 during the Great Depression; and
         WHEREAS, Conceived from the beginning as a warm,
  unpretentious gathering spot, Gonzalez Place soon became
  inextricably woven into the social fabric of the community; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, the business has remained in the
  Gonzalez family; Relio and Sergio Gonzalez, brothers of the
  tavern's founder, played their part in managing the business, and
  it is currently run by the founder's son, Daniel Fidencio Gonzalez;
  and
         WHEREAS, Today, Gonzalez Place is the oldest tavern in
  Weslaco; while it maintains its traditional ties to the community,
  it continues to be a welcoming place for new generations of Weslaco
  residents to meet and relax; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the half-century history of
  Gonzalez Place tavern in Weslaco and extend to the tavern's owners
  and patrons sincere best wishes for continued good fellowship; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the tavern as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
