R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and rewarding life came to an end with the
  passing of John William Johnson on February 16, 2009, at the age of
  84; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Sheridan, Wyoming, on October 6, 1924, to
  Jay and Marguerite Rose Johnson, John Johnson grew up in a log cabin
  with five siblings and no running water; following his graduation
  from Sheridan High School, he answered his nation's call to arms and
  served in the 273rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World
  War II; he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University
  of Wyoming and a master's degree in civil engineering from the
  University of Illinois; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson married the former Dottie Larsen, with
  whom he had three children, D'Ann, Douglas, and Janis, and the
  couple shared a rewarding life together until Mrs. Johnson's death
  in 1976; he was a career employee of Shell Chemical Company, and he
  relocated with his family several times before making Houston his
  permanent home; fortunate to find love a second time after becoming
  a widower, he married Sylvia Byler, who also predeceased him; she
  brought to their family her loved ones as well, and Mr. Johnson took
  great pleasure in spending time with their family and also enjoyed
  returning to his roots to go trout fishing in Wyoming; and
         WHEREAS, Loyal, honest, and hardworking, John Johnson will
  always be remembered with great affection and admiration, and he
  leaves behind a legacy to treasure for those that held him dear;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John William
  Johnson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  
  to his children, D'Ann Johnson and her husband, Alan Pogue, and
  Douglas Johnson; to his stepchildren, Suzanne Meehan and Charles
  Byler; to his brothers, Charley and George Johnson; to his
  grandchildren, Angie Karr, Dustin Johnson, Sean McMurrey, and Kate
  Kelly; to his stepgrandchildren, Ray and Charlie McMurrey, Robert
  and Michelle Bearnth, and Julie and Kelly Byler; to his thirteen
  great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John
  Johnson.
