R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The education of young Texans is a vital enterprise
  for every school in the Lone Star State, and Our Mother of Mercy
  Catholic School in Beaumont has dedicated itself admirably to that
  worthy goal for more than eight decades; and
         WHEREAS, Opened in 1927, the institution was established in
  an effort to provide area schoolchildren with a quality education
  in a religious environment; today, it remains the only
  predominantly African American school in the Diocese of Beaumont;
  and
         WHEREAS, The school serves students in prekindergarten
  through sixth grade, and academic performance is enhanced by small
  class size and by teachers who make an effort to work one-on-one
  with each pupil; and
         WHEREAS, Faith plays an integral role in the curriculum, and
  educators and students alike thrive under the leadership of Father
  Henry Davis and principal Dolores Fulton; and
         WHEREAS, With nine classrooms, a library, and a computer lab,
  the facility continues to grow to meet the needs of its student
  body; in the spring of 2009, the school is celebrating the opening
  of its new gymnasium, which was made possible by a generous $1
  million donation from a former student; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, Our Mother of Mercy
  Catholic School has provided a well-rounded education and
  encouraged academic achievement and personal excellence, and in so
  doing it has helped ensure a bright future for generations of
  students; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School for
  its efforts in behalf of the youth of Beaumont and extend to all
  those associated with the institution sincere best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
