R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Lady Jaguars basketball team from Summit High
  School in Mansfield defeated the squad from Nimitz High School to
  claim the University Interscholastic League 5A state title on March
  7, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, This championship victory capped a spectacular
  season, during which the Lady Jaguars racked up 34 wins and only 4
  losses, and it marks the first time in school history that Summit
  High has ended the season as state champion; the triumph was made
  all the more notable by the fact that the Lady Jaguars were
  underdogs to the top-ranked Nimitz team, which came into the title
  contest with a 30-game winning streak; and
         WHEREAS, Summit's scoring attack was led by graduating senior
  Brandy "Starr" Crawford, who tallied 14 points and grabbed 12
  rebounds on her way to winning the title game MVP honors; junior
  Breanna Harris teamed up with Ms. Crawford to slow the Nimitz
  offense, while junior Amy Moody scored 11 points to help Summit High
  claim the 5A crown; and
         WHEREAS, Winning with a total team effort, the Lady Jaguars
  also received valuable contributions from the other members of the
  squad in the course of the 2008-2009 season; the roster includes
  Ashley Eli, Heather Phares, Paisley Campbell, Alisha Filmore,
  Taylor Hooker, Breonna Tolliver, Lauren Martin, Brykia Sims, and
  Loren McDaniel; and
         WHEREAS, Head coach Tammy Lusinger and varsity assistant Greg
  Peters provided the Lady Jaguars with able guidance, sharing their
  expertise in basketball fundamentals and inspiring the players to
  reach their full potential; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
  culmination of countless hours of hard work and an enduring
  commitment to excellence, and these talented student-athletes will
  carry the memory of this accomplishment with them for years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Summit High School Lady Jaguars
  basketball team on winning the 2009 University Interscholastic
  League 5A State Championship and extend to the players, coaches,
  and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
