R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Stephen F. Austin State University men's
  basketball team reached a new level of success during the 2008-2009
  season by winning the Southland Conference Tournament and earning a
  bid to the NCAA Tournament; and
         WHEREAS, The Lumberjacks put together a conference record of
  13 wins and just 3 losses to claim their second consecutive
  Southland Conference regular season championship; entering the SLC
  tournament as the number one seed, they bested Southeastern
  Louisiana University and Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi to
  earn a spot in the finals; and
         WHEREAS, Facing off against The University of Texas at San
  Antonio in that contest, SFA seized control in the first half and
  posted a 68-57 win; it was the team's first SLC tournament crown
  after two previous appearances in the title game; moreover, the
  victory qualified the Lumberjacks for the NCAA Tournament, giving
  them an opportunity to contend for the national championship; and
         WHEREAS, In the opening round of the NCAA's "Big Dance," SFA
  fell to No. 3-seeded Syracuse University, but the players and
  coaches can be justifiably proud of their overall 24-8 record and
  their placement among the nation's finest college squads; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the 2008-2009 campaign, the Lumberjacks
  received outstanding contributions from each member of the roster:
  Josh Alexander, Eric Bell, Girod Adams, Eddie Williams, Walt
  Harris, Zach Williams, Jarrod McDaniel, Benson Akpan, Nick Shaw,
  Aaron Smith, Cameron James, Austin Falke, Preston Davis, Matt
  Kingsley, and Jereal Scott; and
         WHEREAS, These talented athletes received vital support from
  SFA head coach Danny Kaspar, assistant head coach Brette Tanner,
  assistant coaches Ulric Maligi and Doug Karleskint, and
  administrative assistant Joe Richards; and
         WHEREAS, With their exceptional performances on the court,
  the Lumberjacks were a source of great pride and excitement for SFA
  supporters, and this landmark season has focused well-deserved
  attention on the university and its fine athletic program; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the men's basketball team of
  Stephen F. Austin State University on its achievements during the
  2008-2009 season and extend to the players, coaches, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
