R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Pastor J. C. Benson and his wife, Sherry Benson, are
  being honored by the congregants of First United Pentecostal Church
  of Euless on April 24 to 26, 2009, in recognition of four decades of
  dedicated service; and
         WHEREAS, J. C. and Sherry Benson were married in July 1963,
  and for the next two years they traveled extensively in the cause of
  evangelism; during the 1960s, Mr. Benson served as assistant pastor
  of Northside Pentecostal Church in Waco and as pastor of Vine Life
  United Pentecostal Church in Glen Rose before moving with his wife
  to Euless in the spring of 1969, where they established First United
  Pentecostal; and
         WHEREAS, Although the members of the congregation initially
  gathered for worship in a warehouse, they soon bought property and
  erected their first building, and in 1985 they constructed the
  sanctuary still in use today; numerous ministries have thrived
  under the steadfast leadership of the Bensons, including those
  focused on every age and stage of life as well as one for single
  parents; and
         WHEREAS, Pastor Benson has contributed to his wider community
  of faith as director of the Texas District Foreign Missions
  Department for five years and as secretary of the Texas Bible
  College Board of Directors for two decades; and
         WHEREAS, Offering her wholehearted support to her husband and
  his ministry, Mrs. Benson serves at his side and benefits her fellow
  congregants in countless ways; in addition to their church family,
  Pastor and Mrs. Benson delight in spending time with their
  daughters, Annette Duval and her husband, Keith, and Veta
  McLaughlin and her husband, Carl, as well as their grandchildren,
  Ellerie, Jacob, Rachel, Johnmichael, Blake, and Jenna; and
         WHEREAS, Since founding First United Pentecostal Church,
  this esteemed couple have committed themselves to advancing the
  mission of the congregation with which they have shared so much of
  their lives, and they are truly deserving of recognition on this
  special occasion; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Pastor J. C. Benson and Sherry
  Benson on their 40th anniversary of service to First United
  Pentecostal Church and extend to them sincere best wishes for
  continued success and fulfillment; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Benson as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
