R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of Weatherford are gathering on May 16,
  2009, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Texas Pythian Home
  for children; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1909 by the Knights of Pythias, an
  international, nonsectarian, fraternal organization that dates
  back to 1864, the Texas Pythian Home was built in the architectural
  style of a castle, and it became known as the "Castle on the Hill";
  originally created as a home for the widows and orphans of the
  members of the Knights of Pythias, it later became Pythian Home
  School, educating children from 1910 through 1972; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the Texas Pythian Home is a child-care
  facility that sits on 164 acres of land in the eastern side of
  Weatherford; licensed by the Texas Department of Family and
  Protective Services, the establishment serves youth from across the
  Lone Star State who are between the ages of 3 and 14, and it is
  guided by the motto of the Knights of Pythias, "Friendship,
  Charity, and Benevolence"; the mission of the Texas Pythian Home is
  to provide a safe, stable environment in which children grow
  physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually to become
  responsible and independent adults; while in residence, the youth
  attend school, primarily through the Weatherford Independent
  School District, and their families remain an integral part of
  their lives; and
         WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Pythian Home has had
  a positive impact in the lives of countless young Texans, and it is
  indeed fitting to recognize the members of the Knights of Pythias
  for their many good works; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas Pythian
  Home and extend to all those associated with this notable
  establishment sincere best wishes for a memorable event; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the home as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
