R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Through his notable contributions to his community
  and to the field of public health, Dr. George Benavidez of Corpus
  Christi has helped to ensure a brighter future for countless Gulf
  Coast residents; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of New Mexico School of
  Pharmacy, Dr. Benavidez was active in a number of campus
  organizations while pursuing his undergraduate studies; in
  addition to his membership in the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical
  Fraternity and Rho Chi Society, he was elected class president and
  served as director of Project Porvenir, which provided vital
  medical services to areas in need; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Benavidez earned both a Kappa Psi Scholarship
  and an Upjohn Scholarship, and after his graduation in 1974, he
  enrolled in the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he
  received a National Health Service Corps Scholarship; he continued
  his medical training by completing a Texas Family Practice
  Residency in 1981, at The University of Texas Health Science
  Center; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Benavidez has enjoyed a successful inpatient and
  outpatient practice for 28 years; he is currently affiliated with
  the Thomas-Spann Clinic, the HCA/Columbia Hospital System, and the
  Christus Spohn Health System in Corpus Christi; and
         WHEREAS, Certified to practice family medicine, he
  additionally is an expert in the treatment and evaluation of
  critically ill or traumatized patients; he is a member of the
  American Academy of Family Physicians, American Board of Emergency
  Medicine, American Medical Association, American Heart
  Association, SIDS Foundation, and National Kidney Foundation; also
  a valued member of the Nueces County Medical Society, he has served
  the group on the Executive Board and Malpractice/Tort Reform Task
  Force and as chair of Day of Awareness II and co-chair of the
  Centennial Celebration; and
         WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Dr. Benavidez has been
  honored with awards from the American Medical Association and the
  American Academy of Family Physicians; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. George Benavidez is an outstanding physician
  whose commitment to his patients, his community, and his profession
  is truly exemplary, and he is most deserving of special
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dr. George Benavidez for his professional
  accomplishments and dedication to excellence and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Benavidez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
