R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Don R. Carter, Sr., of Dallas retired from the Texas
  Department of Criminal Justice on March 31, 2009, drawing to a close
  a notable tenure with the State of Texas that spanned more than 30
  years; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Mr. Carter graduated from
  Adamson High School and went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from
  East Texas State University, where he became a lifetime member of
  Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Carter began his career in criminal justice at
  the age of 23; through the years, he distinguished himself in a
  series of positions, including those of district parole officer,
  unit supervisor, and parole supervisor; and
         WHEREAS, In 2002, Mr. Carter was named assistant regional
  director, and in this important post and throughout his time in
  state government, he has been regarded with great respect by his
  colleagues, and he has been a valuable asset to all of the
  departments in which he has served; and
         WHEREAS, This notable Texan demonstrated an admirable work
  ethic early on; as a young man, he made trips to the store for
  elderly residents in his neighborhood, gathered bottles, sold
  newspapers, and shined shoes; while in college, he sold Greek
  merchandise to make extra money, and for 20 years, he worked
  part-time as a retail sales clerk; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Carter has been supported in all of his
  endeavors by a large and loving family, including his wife,
  Cocrecia, his sons, Christopher, Don, and Dondre, his daughter,
  Sabrina, and his three grandchildren; in his free time, he enjoys
  sports and cooking for his loved ones, who often request "Uncle
  Don's" salsa, hot pickles, and pepper sauce; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Carter's dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to excellence have greatly benefited his fellow Texans,
  and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well spent as he
  prepares to embark on the next exciting chapter of his life; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Don R. Carter, Sr., on his
  retirement from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and extend
  to him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Carter as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
