R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Premont are celebrating the 100th
  anniversary of their city on April 18, 2009, with a parade and other
  festivities; and
         WHEREAS, Located in south central Jim Wells County, Premont
  was founded in 1908 by Charles Premont, for whom it was named, and
  Andres Canales, who established a general store in the budding
  community; through the years, the town attracted a growing number
  of residents, and in 1914, the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway
  built a stop there; and
         WHEREAS, Premont was incorporated in 1939, and within a few
  decades, it boasted several schools, churches, and businesses and
  was home to some 3,000 people; surrounded by working ranches and
  farms, the community today remains vibrant, with residents united
  in their enthusiasm for the Premont Cowboys/Cowgirls; and
         WHEREAS, In addition, Premont is a popular destination for
  hunters, who can find any number of wild game there, including
  white-tailed deer, javelina, quail, turkey, and dove; and
         WHEREAS, During this milestone year, Premont citizens pay
  tribute to the exceptional Texans who came before them, and they
  share their pride in a home that offers natural beauty and a
  neighborly spirit; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of the city of
  Premont and extend to area residents best wishes for a memorable
  celebration.
