R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, U.S. Army Specialist Mario Luis Lopez, Jr., of Alice
  has returned home to the United States after risking his life in
  service to his country and sustaining serious combat injuries in
  Afghanistan; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez attended Alice High School, where he was a
  cross-country runner; after graduating in 2003, this brave young
  man answered his nation's call to duty and enlisted in the U.S.
  Army; assigned to the 68th Engineering Platoon of the 32nd Infantry
  Division based at Fort Hood, he was deployed to Afghanistan in March
  2008; and
         WHEREAS, Specialist Lopez was wounded by an improvised
  explosive device that also injured six of his fellow soldiers; he
  narrowly escaped with his life and has undergone medical treatment
  at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and at Landstuhl Regional Medical
  Center in Germany; and
         WHEREAS, Now recovering at Brooke Army Medical Center in San
  Antonio, Specialist Lopez draws strength from the love and support
  of his wife, Josie, and his children, Aalyah and Jayden, as well as
  from his mother, Lily Cash, his father, Mario Luis Lopez, Sr., and
  his three siblings; and
         WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt to our nation's
  servicemen and servicewomen, for they are called on to bear great,
  often unimaginable burdens, and they render service and sacrifice
  that are truly beyond measure; and
         WHEREAS, Through his dedication to duty, honor, and this
  country, Mario Luis Lopez, Jr., has embodied the highest ideals of
  the U.S. armed forces and earned the lasting respect and gratitude
  of all who know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor U.S. Army Specialist Mario Luis Lopez,
  Jr., for his courageous service in Afghanistan and extend to him
  sincere best wishes for his continuing recovery; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Specialist Lopez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
