R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Johnny L. Sessums of Houston has distinguished
  himself through his outstanding service to his community; and
         WHEREAS, This native Texan was born in Hearne on August 30,
  1952, to John E. Sessums and Flora E. Sessums; he went on to receive
  associate's degrees from Blinn College and Houston Community
  College, and he graduated from the City of Houston Police Academy in
  1973; he later resumed his studies, earning a bachelor's degree in
  criminal justice management from Midwestern State University in
  2003 and a master's degree from the University of Houston in 2005;
  and
         WHEREAS, A retired Houston police officer, Mr. Sessums was
  recruited in 1988 to assist with the development of the police
  academy at Houston Community College, and he was the primary
  instructor and coordinator of its first class in 1989; today he
  serves as director of the Public Safety Institute at HCC Northeast,
  a program that was created with the goal of establishing a facility
  where fire, police, and EMS personnel could train together and
  learn to work cooperatively; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Sessums has been instrumental
  to the growth and development of the HCC program, which now offers
  instruction in criminal justice and police science, fire
  protection, and fire science and firefighting, including basic
  academy training, licensing, and continuing education; it has also
  built vital partnerships with such local institutions as the
  Houston Fire Department, and it is rated number one in the region
  for its first attempt passing rates on licensing exams; committed
  to training qualified individuals who will protect the well-being
  of the citizens of Texas, he has sought to maintain the highest
  standards in educating these public servants and in helping them
  succeed; and
         WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Sessums enjoys the love
  and support of his wife, Catherine Ann Hicks-Sessums, whom he
  married in 1996, and he takes great pride in his two children,
  Dallas Lee Sessums and Scott Joseph Sessums, and his three
  grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Johnny Sessums has demonstrated an unwavering
  commitment to public safety and education over the course of his
  career, and his notable achievements and contributions indeed merit
  special recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Johnny L. Sessums for his exemplary
  efforts in behalf of his fellow citizens and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Sessums as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
