R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Woodlands High School girls' swimming and diving
  team won the 2009 University Interscholastic League 5A state
  championship, handily defeating the competition at the Lee and Joe
  Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin on February 28, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Following second place finishes the past two years
  at the state meet, the Lady Highlanders captured their first state
  team title since 2006 with a total of 238 points, 36 more than
  runner-up San Antonio Churchill High School; and
         WHEREAS, Individually, Erin Foster took first place in the
  500-meter freestyle, while also teaming with her sister, Mary
  Foster, Kelsey Amundsen, and Chelsey Eberwein for a
  state-record-setting first place finish in the 200-meter freestyle
  relay; Ms. Amundsen also distinguished herself with a silver medal
  in the 50-meter freestyle and a bronze in the 100-meter freestyle;
  and
         WHEREAS, The Woodlands swimmers received expert guidance
  throughout the season from head coach Kent Kirchner, assistant
  coaches Jeff Spoon and Diane Picone, and diving coach Daniel
  Sautural; and
         WHEREAS, By proving themselves the finest group of 5A
  swimmers in Texas, the Lady Highlanders have furthered their
  school's outstanding tradition of athletic excellence, and their
  accomplishment is a source of great pride to their Woodlands
  classmates as well as the team's many supporters in the local
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate The Woodlands High School girls'
  swimming and diving team on winning the 2009 UIL 5A state
  championship and extend to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
