| WHEREAS, The Woodlands High School won the 2007-2008 | ||
| University Interscholastic League 5A Lone Star Cup, which goes to | ||
| the Texas school that has the most overall success in UIL athletic, | ||
| academic, marching band, and one-act-play competitions; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The Highlanders captured the cup by compiling 84 | ||
| points, edging out their closest competitor, Southlake Carroll High | ||
| School, by four points; moreover, this was the second time in three | ||
| years that the school was awarded the trophy in the 5A | ||
| classification; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Contenders for the Lone Star Cup must demonstrate | ||
| superiority in a broad range of endeavors, and the student | ||
| competitors from The Woodlands delivered exceptional performances | ||
| throughout the school year; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Dodge Dealers, the Lone Star | ||
| Cup has become a much-sought-after prize by high schools throughout | ||
| Texas, with the winning schools receiving a $1,000 scholarship in | ||
| addition to the coveted trophy; and | ||
| WHEREAS, By claiming the 5A cup, The Woodlands High School | ||
| has distinguished itself as one of the top institutions in the | ||
| state, and this achievement has furthered the school's considerable | ||
| reputation for athletic and academic excellence; now, therefore, be | ||
| it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate The Woodlands High School on | ||
| winning the 2007-2008 5A Lone Star Cup and extend to the school's | ||
| students, coaches, educators, and staff best wishes for continued | ||
| success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
