R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Matthew Sanchez, a senior at Communications Arts
  High School in San Antonio, has deservedly been named a scholar
  finalist in the 2008-2009 National Hispanic Recognition Program;
  and
         WHEREAS, An initiative of the College Board, the National
  Hispanic Recognition Program honors those Hispanic students who
  score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholar Qualifying
  Test and who maintain a satisfactory grade point average; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Cynthia Sanchez, this outstanding young
  Texan participates in many extracurricular activities; he is a
  member of the Film Club, the Junior Engineering Technical Society,
  and the school teams for the University Interscholastic League math
  and science competitions; moreover, he has served as treasurer and
  concertmaster of the school orchestra, contributed to the Bob Beard
  Elementary School Carnival, and donated his time as a caregiver for
  the disabled, among other pursuits; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez has garnered several distinctions in his
  academic career, including gold medals for solo and ensemble
  orchestral performance and admission into the Region 11 and Texas
  Honor Orchestras; a member of the National Honor Society, he has
  earned a notable grade point average of 94.0 and plans to further
  his education at Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, Soon to embark on an exciting new chapter in his
  life, Matthew Sanchez may indeed reflect with pride on his numerous
  accomplishments and look with anticipation toward a bright and
  promising future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Sanchez on his selection as
  a scholar finalist in the 2008-2009 National Hispanic Recognition
  Program and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Sanchez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
