R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the
  Relief Nursery of Collin County is hosting a fund-raiser on April
  25, 2009, to promote its outreach programs and raise awareness
  about this critical issue; and
         WHEREAS, The event, Ride for Relief Nursery, is a 45-mile
  motorcycle ride through western Collin County, and its proceeds are
  helping sustain the services provided by the Relief Nursery; this
  nonprofit child abuse prevention agency is supported by the
  Prevention and Early Intervention Division of the Texas Department
  of Family and Protective Services, and it is modeled after a
  successful program in Oregon; the organization seeks to prevent the
  cycle of child abuse and neglect through early intervention that
  focuses on strengthening parents and children and on preserving
  families; and
         WHEREAS, Relief Nursery has built a strong partnership with
  the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center and CITY House, and
  together, these groups have created a vital safety net for local
  residents; while the Advocacy Center and CITY House become involved
  after child abuse or neglect has occurred, Relief Nursery
  identifies families that are at risk for abuse or neglect and steps
  in to offer such services as therapeutic early childhood
  classrooms, parent education classes, and home visits, in an effort
  to protect the welfare of the children; and
         WHEREAS, With its unwavering commitment to children and
  families, the Relief Nursery of Collin County has made a positive
  difference in the lives of many, and the significance of its work
  resonates in the Lone Star State and beyond; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 Ride for Relief Nursery of
  Collin County and extend to all participants best wishes for a
  successful event; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Relief Nursery of Collin County as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
