R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the |
|
Relief Nursery of Collin County is hosting a fund-raiser on April |
|
25, 2009, to promote its outreach programs and raise awareness |
|
about this critical issue; and |
|
WHEREAS, The event, Ride for Relief Nursery, is a 45-mile |
|
motorcycle ride through western Collin County, and its proceeds are |
|
helping sustain the services provided by the Relief Nursery; this |
|
nonprofit child abuse prevention agency is supported by the |
|
Prevention and Early Intervention Division of the Texas Department |
|
of Family and Protective Services, and it is modeled after a |
|
successful program in Oregon; the organization seeks to prevent the |
|
cycle of child abuse and neglect through early intervention that |
|
focuses on strengthening parents and children and on preserving |
|
families; and |
|
WHEREAS, Relief Nursery has built a strong partnership with |
|
the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center and CITY House, and |
|
together, these groups have created a vital safety net for local |
|
residents; while the Advocacy Center and CITY House become involved |
|
after child abuse or neglect has occurred, Relief Nursery |
|
identifies families that are at risk for abuse or neglect and steps |
|
in to offer such services as therapeutic early childhood |
|
classrooms, parent education classes, and home visits, in an effort |
|
to protect the welfare of the children; and |
|
WHEREAS, With its unwavering commitment to children and |
|
families, the Relief Nursery of Collin County has made a positive |
|
difference in the lives of many, and the significance of its work |
|
resonates in the Lone Star State and beyond; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 2009 Ride for Relief Nursery of |
|
Collin County and extend to all participants best wishes for a |
|
successful event; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the Relief Nursery of Collin County as an expression of |
|
high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
