R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Knights of Peter Claver, Inc., is celebrating |
|
|
the 100th anniversary of its founding at the organization's 94th |
|
|
Annual Convention, which is being held in New Orleans in August |
|
|
2009; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in Mobile, Alabama, in 1909, the |
|
|
organization is the only African American Catholic fraternal order |
|
|
in the nation; the order promotes faith, dedication to the Catholic |
|
|
Church, and service to the community, and includes in its mission |
|
|
the rendering of aid and assistance to the sick and disabled as well |
|
|
as the promotion of social and intellectual association among its |
|
|
members; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the Knights of Peter Claver has |
|
|
added a number of divisions, including Fourth Degree, Junior |
|
|
Knights, Ladies Auxiliary, Junior Daughters and Knights, and Ladies |
|
|
of Grace Meritorious; today, the group has more than 800 |
|
|
subordinate units in the United States as well as one in Colombia; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Performing charitable works in a spirit of |
|
|
friendship and unity, members of the Knights of Peter Claver have |
|
|
contributed to their communities in innumerable ways, and it is a |
|
|
pleasure to honor these individuals as they celebrate this |
|
|
milestone in the life of their organization; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the Knights of Peter Claver, Inc., |
|
|
on the 100th anniversary of its founding, commemorate the |
|
|
organization's 94th Annual Convention in New Orleans, and recognize |
|
|
August 3, 2009, as the Knights of Peter Claver Day; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
