R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Richard D. Wiles was elected sheriff of El Paso |
|
County in November 2008, providing a fitting opportunity to honor |
|
his many accomplishments; and |
|
WHEREAS, Raised in El Paso, Sheriff Wiles graduated from |
|
Andress High School in 1979 and went on to follow in the rich |
|
tradition of public service established in his family; he served |
|
for a time as an El Paso firefighter before joining the city's |
|
police force in 1982; and |
|
WHEREAS, This dedicated professional rose quickly through |
|
the ranks of EPPD, distinguishing himself in such positions as |
|
detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, deputy chief, assistant |
|
chief, and interim chief; along the way, he earned a bachelor's |
|
degree in criminal justice from The University of Texas at El Paso |
|
and a master's degree in criminal justice from Sul Ross State |
|
University, in addition to graduating from the Federal Bureau of |
|
Investigation's National Academy, the National Executive |
|
Institute, and the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management |
|
Institute of Texas; he was appointed chief of police in 2004 and |
|
served in that role for three years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of law enforcement, |
|
Richard Wiles brings more than 25 years of experience to the El Paso |
|
County Sheriff's Department, and he is sure to benefit his fellow |
|
citizens with his deep commitment to honesty, integrity, and public |
|
safety; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Richard D. Wiles on his election as |
|
sheriff of El Paso County and extend to him sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Sheriff Wiles as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
