R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., has served as a
  member of the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association
  since 1986, and at the age of 78, he continues to render essential
  assistance; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Thyatira, Mississippi, on July 21, 1930,
  Alvertice Bowdre was educated in Mississippi and Texas and became
  one of the first graduates of Southwestern Christian College; like
  his father, he was called to the ministry, and for more than half a
  century he has led Church of Christ congregations in Oklahoma,
  Indiana, Tennessee, and Texas; he is currently the minister of the
  Highway 6 Church of Christ in Navasota; through the years, he also
  worked as a property manager and juvenile probation officer, and he
  has been employed as a sales associate at Sears since 2001; and
         WHEREAS, This industrious and civic-minded Texan has given
  generously of his time and talents to numerous community
  organizations; he participated on a committee addressing urban
  renewal issues in the 1970s and has served as a 4-H Club leader and
  Cub Scout master; moreover, he was the first president of his alma
  mater's alumni association, and Southwestern Christian College
  recognized his noteworthy contributions in 2006 by naming one of
  its largest annual recruitment events Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., High
  School Day; and
         WHEREAS, Courageous and deeply committed to public safety,
  Reverend Bowdre has earned the high admiration of his fellow
  firefighters, and his skill and calm demeanor are invaluable to the
  response team for the Waller-Harris Emergency Service District; the
  fire fighting association accorded him its Distinguished Service
  Award in 2007, and the following August it named a building in his
  honor; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Bowdre has touched many lives by providing
  aid, comfort, and compassion in times of distress, and his
  dedication to the people of his community is a source of tremendous
  inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Alvertice Bowdre, Jr., for
  his service to the Prairie View Volunteer Fire Fighting Association
  and extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Reverend Bowdre as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
