R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the |
|
|
establishment of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The agency was created in 1909 as the Bureau of Labor |
|
|
Statistics to collect information on Texas employees and to address |
|
|
industrial issues affecting employers, employees, and the general |
|
|
public; by 1956 the Bureau of Labor Statistics had six divisions, |
|
|
and in 1989 the agency began operating under its current name and |
|
|
many of its labor functions were transferred to the Texas |
|
|
Employment Commission; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Executive Director William |
|
|
H. Kuntz, Jr., the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is |
|
|
today the state's umbrella occupational regulatory agency, |
|
|
governed by a seven-member commission that is appointed by the |
|
|
governor; guided by its core values of integrity, accountability, |
|
|
customer service, open and free communication, innovation, |
|
|
teamwork, and respect, TDLR currently oversees 26 occupations and |
|
|
industries, with more than 500,000 licensees, and its mission is to |
|
|
foster a fair and efficient regulatory environment and ensure |
|
|
public safety; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Department of |
|
|
Licensing and Regulation has demonstrated its commitment to |
|
|
becoming the model state agency, earning the public trust by |
|
|
setting the standard for customer service, innovation, |
|
|
cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and its contributions to our |
|
|
state government indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas |
|
|
Department of Licensing and Regulation and extend to its current |
|
|
and former employees and commissioners and all those associated |
|
|
with the agency sincere appreciation for their service to the Lone |
|
|
Star State; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for TDLR as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
|
of Representatives. |
