| WHEREAS, The year 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of the | ||
| establishment of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; | ||
| and | ||
| WHEREAS, The agency was created in 1909 as the Bureau of Labor | ||
| Statistics to collect information on Texas employees and to address | ||
| industrial issues affecting employers, employees, and the general | ||
| public; by 1956 the Bureau of Labor Statistics had six divisions, | ||
| and in 1989 the agency began operating under its current name and | ||
| many of its labor functions were transferred to the Texas | ||
| Employment Commission; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Executive Director William | ||
| H. Kuntz, Jr., the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is | ||
| today the state's umbrella occupational regulatory agency, | ||
| governed by a seven-member commission that is appointed by the | ||
| governor; guided by its core values of integrity, accountability, | ||
| customer service, open and free communication, innovation, | ||
| teamwork, and respect, TDLR currently oversees 26 occupations and | ||
| industries, with more than 500,000 licensees, and its mission is to | ||
| foster a fair and efficient regulatory environment and ensure | ||
| public safety; and | ||
| WHEREAS, For the past century, the Texas Department of | ||
| Licensing and Regulation has demonstrated its commitment to | ||
| becoming the model state agency, earning the public trust by | ||
| setting the standard for customer service, innovation, | ||
| cost-effectiveness, and efficiency, and its contributions to our | ||
| state government indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore, | ||
| be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Texas | ||
| Department of Licensing and Regulation and extend to its current | ||
| and former employees and commissioners and all those associated | ||
| with the agency sincere appreciation for their service to the Lone | ||
| Star State; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for TDLR as an expression of high regard by the Texas House | ||
| of Representatives. | ||
