R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, McAllen Memorial High School is one of only five
  institutions to receive a 2009 Honorable Mention Inspiration Award
  from the College Board; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, the College Board recognizes schools for
  their outstanding college preparation programs and their
  partnerships among teachers, parents, and community organizations;
  advanced placement courses prepare students for college and allow
  them to earn college credit, and consequently, AP students are more
  likely to graduate from college in four years; and
         WHEREAS, McAllen Memorial students can choose from AP courses
  in art, language arts, math, science, social studies, and Spanish;
  the school's AP program is directed by English department chair
  Rachelle Grace, and Debbie Pace serves as the AP testing
  coordinator; and
         WHEREAS, In addition, AP students at MMHS are supported by
  numerous faculty members, including Rina Roberts, Daniel Garcia,
  Gina Garcia, Luis Garza, David Moore, Sophia Pena-Garza, Ann
  Velarde, Kyle Brashear, Lucille Edwards, Mary E. Garza, Cynthia
  Mills, Sarah Vandever, Tim Baus, Melissa R. Eddy, Diana Lee
  Hinojosa, Jessica Kaiser, Maria Medrano, Gloria Harris, Todd S.
  Kettelkamp, Laura Lewis, Mesika Nguma, Mike Nicholson, Tanja Ochoa,
  Linda S. Rosales, and Yadira Gonzalez; and
         WHEREAS, A quality education is the foundation of future
  success, and the advanced placement program at McAllen Memorial
  High School is providing area students with opportunities for a
  unique and rigorous learning experience that will facilitate
  success for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor McAllen Memorial High School on its
  receipt of a 2009 Honorable Mention Inspiration Award from the
  College Board and extend to its AP faculty members and students
  sincere appreciation for their hard work and dedication; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for McAllen Memorial High School as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
