R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, An inspiring couple whose lives have been enhanced
  by a great and enduring love, Edward and Edna Thompson of Woodway
  observed the milestone of their 50th wedding anniversary on August
  24, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were united in matrimony in
  1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Glendora, Michigan; through the
  years, they have nurtured a fulfilling marriage that has been made
  even richer with the addition of three children, Steve Thompson and
  his wife, Sandra, Barbara Thompson-Skolaski, and Ellen Watson and
  her husband, Wynn, as well as six grandchildren, Ashley, Austin,
  Scott, Jessica, Kevin, and Sydney; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Hendrix College, Mr. Thompson earned
  his master's degree from Indiana University and served his country
  as a member of the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, retiring as a colonel
  after 38 years; his civilian career as a social worker included a
  notable tenure with the Veterans Administration; Mrs. Thompson was
  employed by Singer Sewing Machine Company and has been a devoted
  homemaker throughout her marriage; and
         WHEREAS, The Thompsons are valued members of Peace Lutheran
  Church, and together they enjoy traveling and spending time with
  family and friends; and
         WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past
  half-century, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant
  in their commitment to one another, and the strength of their love
  has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with
  grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Edward and Edna Thompson on their
  golden wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes
  for continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the couple as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
