R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Nolan Richardson is serving as the keynote speaker
  at the 2009 Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Awards Dinner, hosted by
  LULAC Project Amistad; and
         WHEREAS, An El Paso-based nonprofit organization, Project
  Amistad hosts the annual banquet to pay tribute to those
  individuals and groups that have demonstrated exemplary efforts in
  serving the community; proceeds from the event are directed toward
  the agency's client health and welfare fund, which provides vital
  assistance to senior citizens and people with disabilities; and
         WHEREAS, A college basketball Hall of Fame coach who has
  guided athletes for more than four decades, Nolan Richardson has
  the rare distinction of having won the National Junior College
  Tournament, the National Invitational Tournament, and the NCAA
  championship; moreover, he is a motivational speaker, a basketball
  clinician, and a sports commentator, and he has devoted his time and
  resources to several charitable endeavors, including a golf
  fund-raising event in El Paso; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Coach Richardson has
  distinguished himself through hard work and perseverance, and he
  has set an example of leadership and volunteerism to which all may
  aspire; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Nolan Richardson on the occasion of his
  keynote address at the 2009 Lucy G. Acosta Humanitarian Awards
  Dinner and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
  and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Coach Richardson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
