R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, North Lake College is celebrating the grand opening |
|
of its South Campus in Irving with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on |
|
April 29, 2009; and |
|
WHEREAS, An impressive 30,000-square-foot facility, South |
|
Campus will serve as a center for educational advancement for area |
|
residents, and it represents a welcome expansion of the offerings |
|
of North Lake College and of the Dallas County Community College |
|
District; and |
|
WHEREAS, Students at the campus will be able to pursue a range |
|
of academic programs, including the completion of associate-degree |
|
and college-transfer courses as well as classes that focus on |
|
career training, personal enrichment, and GED and English-language |
|
studies; and |
|
WHEREAS, With an eye to the future, North Lake College has |
|
implemented many sustainable building practices in the design of |
|
the campus, resulting in a facility that is environmentally |
|
friendly; moreover, on the corner of the South Campus property, the |
|
City of Irving is building the MacArthur/Shady Grove gateway, which |
|
will include sculpture, a seating area, and landscaping and will |
|
serve as an attractive and welcoming point of entry for the public; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Institutions of higher education play an |
|
indispensible role in the economic and cultural vitality of the |
|
Lone Star State, and the North Lake College South Campus is a vital |
|
resource that will benefit the citizens of Irving and the |
|
surrounding area for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of the North Lake |
|
College South Campus in Irving and commend all those involved in the |
|
project for a job well done; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the college as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
