R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Houston Community College has renamed its Town and |
|
Country Campus as the Spring Branch Campus; and |
|
WHEREAS, One of the largest community college systems in the |
|
country, HCC began offering classes in Spring Branch in 1986 at the |
|
behest of the Spring Branch Independent School District; located |
|
initially on the SBISD Westchester Campus, HCC opened its own |
|
campus, Town and Country, in 2001, by which time enrollment in the |
|
school had grown to 3,600 students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Houston Community College launched its dual credit |
|
program for SBISD high school students in 1992, and in 2005 the |
|
college conducted community meetings to gather ideas about how it |
|
could help make higher education still more available to area |
|
residents; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2009, HCC and SBISD entered an agreement to |
|
establish an Early College High School, an innovative program |
|
through which students simultaneously earn their high school |
|
diploma and either an associate's degree or two years' credit toward |
|
a bachelor's degree; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Spring Branch Campus currently provides high |
|
quality, affordable academic, career, and technical education |
|
through on-site and online classes to some 7,000 students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since opening its doors just over two decades ago, |
|
the Houston Community College campus in Spring Branch has had a |
|
profound impact on the lives of countless students and on the |
|
quality of life in the surrounding community, and it is indeed |
|
fitting to recognize both its myriad achievements and the bright |
|
promise of the years ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the renaming of the Town and Country |
|
Campus of Houston Community College as the Spring Branch Campus and |
|
extend sincere best wishes to everyone associated with the campus |
|
for continued success in all their endeavors. |
