R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The passing of Herbert L. Young of Gilmer on
  February 14, 2009, at the age of 87, has brought a tremendous loss
  to his family and friends; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Gilmer, Mr. Young was born on December
  31, 1921, to D. A. and Tressie Bennett Young; he attended East Texas
  State Teachers College and joined the United States Navy after the
  bombing of Pearl Harbor, serving his country with distinction in
  the Pacific during World War II; and
         WHEREAS, Returning to civilian life, Mr. Young joined his
  parents as a partner in D. A. Young Grocery and later worked in the
  engineering department at Lone Star Steel; in 1966, he purchased
  the Gilmer Gulf Oil distributorship and went on to acquire the
  Mineola distributorship, which he ran until his retirement in 1983;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Young served his community as a member of the
  Gilmer ISD School Board, and he was active in the local First
  Baptist Church where he was a member of The Workers Sunday School
  class; a lifelong cattle rancher, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing,
  and cheering on the Gilmer Buckeyes; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, he was a loving father to his
  five children, Andy, Sammy, Virginia, and the late Mari and Jimmy
  Young; and
         WHEREAS, Although he will be greatly missed, memories of
  Herbert Young will long endure in the hearts of all those whose
  lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the life of Herbert L. Young and extend
  deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his children, Andy
  Young, Sammy Young and his wife, Shanis, and Virginia Goudarzi; to
  his grandchildren, Krissy Harle and her husband, Ross, Damon Young
  and his wife, Missy, Mitchell Young and his wife, Analisa, Chane
  Young, Marty Young and his wife, Megan, Natalie Dixon and her
  husband, Chad, Alise Nolan and her husband, Scott, Brent Goudarzi
  and his wife, Leslie, and Shawn Goudarzi and his wife, Gayle; to his
  15 great-grandchildren, Ilissa, Bethany, and Audrey Nolan, Shelby,
  Brandon, Jacob, Graham, Will, and Addison Young, Dain, Zoe, and
  Alexis Goudarzi, Carter and Jimmy Cole Dixon, and Colette Nicole
  Harle; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Herbert L.
  Young.
