R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family, friends, and many admirers of
  restaurateur Matt Gayton Martinez, Jr., of Dallas are mourning his
  death on March 13, 2009, at the age of 63; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Austin, Mr. Martinez was part of a
  venerable restaurant dynasty; in 1925, his grandfather opened one
  of the first Tex-Mex restaurants in Austin, and in 1952, his father,
  Matt Martinez, Sr., opened the Austin landmark Matt's El Rancho;
  and
         WHEREAS, In the mid-1980s, Matt Martinez, Jr., built on his
  family's reputation for good food and outstanding customer service
  in Dallas, where he opened several restaurants, including the
  popular Matt's Rancho Martinez; he personally approved every recipe
  in his restaurants, and in 2006, he published a cookbook, MexTex:
  Traditional Tex-Mex Taste, celebrating the cuisine's timeless
  favorites; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez also introduced such techniques as
  "early Texas prairie-style cooking" to restaurant diners; he was an
  avid hunter and fisherman, and catfish, quail, and dove were often
  served at his upscale restaurant No Place, and he was also known for
  his famed Bob Armstrong Dip, named after the former Texas land
  commissioner; and
         WHEREAS, Generous and outgoing, Matt Martinez took his
  greatest pleasure in cooking and entertaining, and all who entered
  his restaurants were instantly made to feel like welcome and valued
  old friends; he will long be remembered with admiration and
  affection by all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Matt Gayton Martinez,
  Jr., and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to
  his wife of 40 years, Estella B. Martinez; to his mother, Janie
  Martinez; to his children, Jesse G. Martinez, Christine Nicole
  Lopez and her husband, Jahaziel, Matt Martinez III and his wife,
  Jenn, Joaquin Miguel Martinez and his wife, Juanette, and Marco
  Javier Martinez; to his grandchildren, DeAnthony, Christopher,
  Jordan, Alysia, Micheal, Kameron, Teresa, Tylor, Noah, Jahaziel,
  Maya, Nicholas, Thomas, Marisol, Alex, Gabriella, Marco, and
  Izabelle; to his great-grandson, Jayden; to his sisters, Gloria
  Marie Reyna and her husband, Roy, Cecilia Ann Muela and her husband,
  Charles, and Cathy Krietz and her husband, Darrell; and to his other
  family and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Matt
  Martinez, Jr.
