R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of The Woodlands fondly remember
  Frederick Thomas Shetz, a beloved neighbor and admired community
  leader, who died on June 25, 2004; and
         WHEREAS, Born to Leo and Hazel Shetz on September 13, 1941,
  Fred Shetz graduated from Northeast Catholic High School for Boys
  in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1959; he went on to earn a
  bachelor's degree in business management from St. Mary's College of
  California; and
         WHEREAS, Hired by Baugh Chemical Company soon after high
  school, Mr. Shetz joined Gulf Oil Corporation in 1961 and worked in
  accounting before becoming director of the employee van pool
  program; initially based in Pennsylvania, he transferred in 1976 to
  the Houston area, where he and his family became early residents of
  The Woodlands; he spent the last four years of his career in San
  Francisco working for Chevron, which had acquired Gulf in the
  mid-1980s; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Shetz retired in 1990 and moved back to The
  Woodlands with his family; during his many years in the community,
  he was a prominent figure in numerous civic organizations,
  including the July 4th parade committee and a local Cub Scout troop;
  in addition, he was known as "The Voice of The Woodlands" for the
  computer calling service he operated that was used by many local
  organizations; and
         WHEREAS, An active congregant of Saints Simon and Jude
  Catholic Parish, he was ordained a deacon in the Catholic Church in
  1984 and faithfully carried out the duties of that position for the
  next two decades; on his return to Texas from California, Mr. Shetz
  became the human resources director of the Archdiocese of
  Galveston-Houston as well as director of ordained deacons, a
  position he held for 10 years; and
         WHEREAS, Married to his high school sweetheart, the former
  Catherine Geiser, since 1960, Mr. Shetz embraced the joys of family
  life; through the decades, he and Mrs. Shetz welcomed children and
  grandchildren into the world, and together they took part in many
  rewarding experiences, including numerous trips throughout Europe
  and the Middle East, during which they introduced church groups to
  important religious and historic sites; and
         WHEREAS, Fred Shetz devoted himself to his family, his
  church, and The Woodlands community, and he continues to be greatly
  missed by the many individuals whose lives were enriched by his love
  and friendship; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frederick Thomas
  Shetz; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frederick
  Thomas Shetz.
