R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, La Feria city commissioner John Hernandez has served
  his community and his country with great distinction, and his
  accomplishments are indeed worthy of special recognition; and
         WHEREAS, In his boyhood, Mr. Hernandez joined his migrant
  family in agricultural labor that took them north every harvest
  season; although this work often forced him to get a late start in
  school, he studied diligently and graduated from La Feria High
  School in 1968; that same year, he joined the U.S. Marines; while
  serving in the 2nd Marine Division in Vietnam, he was wounded by
  mortar fire and received a Purple Heart for his bravery; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez went on to work for the United States
  Postal Service for three decades until his retirement; in recent
  years, he has dedicated himself to the residents of La Feria, giving
  generously of his time and talents as a volunteer and as a public
  official; first elected as a city commissioner in 1995, he joined
  the economic development board and the city event planning board
  that same year and continues to serve in all three capacities; from
  1998 through 2005, this civic-minded Texan served as mayor pro tem
  of La Feria; in addition, he served on the original home-rule
  charter committee in 1989; and
         WHEREAS, Among his myriad endeavors, Mr. Hernandez has long
  served as a member and officer of the Knights of Columbus, and he is
  also a valued member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where he
  serves as a Eucharistic minister; over the years, he and his wife,
  the former Mary Cobarrubias, have participated in countless
  community events; the devoted couple are the parents of three
  treasured sons; and
         WHEREAS, Through his selfless efforts and unwavering
  commitment, John Hernandez has helped La Feria grow and prosper,
  and he has earned the respect and admiration of all who are
  privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize John Hernandez for his noteworthy
  achievements and extend to him best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
