R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, First Lieutenant John David Magri of the United
  States Army returned home to Texas on March 17, 2009, following a
  12-month deployment to Iraq, and he is indeed deserving of
  recognition for his outstanding service in behalf of this nation;
  and
         WHEREAS, Born in Bogota, Colombia, to William and Martha
  Magri, John Magri was raised in Houston; he began his military
  career in August 2001, when he enlisted in the Texas National Guard;
  after completing One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning,
  Georgia, he was assigned as a rifleman and team leader with the 2nd
  Battalion, 142nd Infantry, of the 36th Infantry Division; and
         WHEREAS, Lieutenant Magri was accepted into the Simultaneous
  Membership Program and enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training
  Corps while completing his business administration studies at Texas
  Tech University; following his graduation in May 2006, he completed
  further military training and was then assigned to Bravo Company,
  1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, and took on the responsibilities of
  mechanized infantry platoon leader and company executive officer;
  and
         WHEREAS, This courageous officer and his fellow soldiers were
  deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and carried out
  combat operations in Baghdad; in recognition of his exemplary
  service, he has received the Bronze Star, the National Defense
  Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and
  Service Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon,
  the Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Airborne Badge; he currently
  serves as the commander of Bravo Company; and
         WHEREAS, In his spare time, Lieutenant Magri enjoys outdoor
  activities such as golf, hunting, and fishing; in addition, he is a
  passionate fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team and the
  Houston Astros, and his timely return to the U.S. in spring 2009
  allows him to keep close tabs on his favorite baseball team at the
  start of a new season; and
         WHEREAS, In his steadfast dedication to duty, Lieutenant John
  D. Magri embodies the highest ideals of the United States armed
  forces, and his admirable contributions to this nation's defense
  have earned him the respect and appreciation of his fellow
  citizens; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to First Lieutenant John David Magri
  for his service in Iraq and in his other military assignments and
  extend to him a hearty welcome home to the Lone Star State; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Lieutenant Magri as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
